Belize
Fast, low-cost IBCs and trusts in an English-speaking common-law jurisdiction.

Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America, with English common law, Privy Council-descended jurisprudence and one of the cheapest and fastest IBC registries anywhere. Its trust legislation includes short limitation periods for creditor challenges, making it a genuine asset-protection option.
Reputationally Belize sits at the aggressive end of the offshore spectrum, and banks price that in. It works best beneath a more respectable holding layer rather than as the visible top of a structure.
Where Belize fits
- IBCs
- Asset protection trusts
- Holding vehicles
Banking landscape
Caye International Bank, Belize Bank International and Heritage Bank serve international clients with relatively low minimums, though correspondent access is limited and USD wires can be slow. Most clients pair a Belize entity with banking in Mauritius, the UAE or Switzerland.
Tax & reporting
IBCs earning only foreign-source income pay no Belize income tax, capital gains tax or withholding tax. Domestic-source income is taxable. Since the 2019 reforms, IBCs must obtain a tax identification number and file annual returns even where no tax is due. Annual fees remain low.
Substance & register visibility
Economic substance requirements apply to relevant activities. Beneficial ownership is filed with the registered agent and reported to the authorities on a private register. Belize trusts benefit from statutory non-recognition of foreign judgments and short limitation periods for fraudulent-transfer claims.
When to pick this jurisdiction
Pick Belize for a low-cost asset-protection trust or holding IBC where speed and price dominate, and where banking will sit in a stronger jurisdiction.
Written up as a comparative shortlist.
Every Belize recommendation is delivered as a comparative memorandum — substance defensibility, banking access, treaty coverage, register visibility, cost to maintain and reputational risk — so the client can see the trade-offs before committing.

Questions we hear on every Belize intake.
- Are Belize IBCs still tax free?
- Foreign-source income remains untaxed, but IBCs must now register for a TIN and file annual returns following the 2019 reforms.
- How strong is a Belize trust?
- Statutorily strong — foreign judgments are not automatically recognised and challenge windows are short. Enforcement outcomes still depend on the facts of each case.
- Will banks accept a Belize company?
- Some will, with proper documentation. Many international banks apply enhanced scrutiny, so we usually place Belize entities under a more reputable holding layer.
